Areas of practice: focus on criminal defense and traffic, including appeals and habeas corpus, in the Virginia system, but also federal criminal defense, and experience in divorce and separation, auto accidents and personal injury, wills and trusts, decedent's estates, civil litigation (e.g., real estate, contract, and business), administrative agency, social security disability, commercial real estate, farmers' rights, appeals.

Courts authorized to appear in: all courts of the Commonwealth of Virginia, including the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, United States District Court for the Western District and Eastern District of Virginia, U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and U.S. Supreme Court.

Memberships: Virginia State Bar Association (section memberships: criminal law, family law, real property law), Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (1983-2013), Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association.

Formerly member of Board of Directors of Charlottesville-Albemarle Legal Aid Society.

On court-appointed list for representing indigents charged with crime in Albemarle County from 1980-2002, and then again in 2012, ongoing. Also on the court-appointed list in the City of Charlottesville from 1980-1986, and then again in 2012, ongoing.  Certified by the Va. Indigent Defense Commission in felonies and misdemeanors, and in capital murder (death penalty) trial cases (associate counsel), and habeas corpus.
